Today was the official kickoff of the dairy cow showing season for 2011 and the Robinson family. Both Jon and Gabe donned the whites and entered the show ring with their bovine companions. Jon as a veteran of the Enumclaw fairgrounds and Gabe as a rookie. Gabe did very well in his debut handling himself with poise in front of the judges and directing his calf like a pro., when she would let him.
Of course the showing wouldn't be the same without the usual pre-event snuggling with the calves. It's a tradition and good to help form the bond between kid and cow.
In the ring it was all business, even thought at times it seemed as though someone forgot to tell the cows as they were mostly naughty today. Especially Penny, Jon's calf.
Jon struggled with his calf and at one point fought off tears as his calf stepped on Jon's foot. He would've scored higher in the Fitting and Showing portion if she had not been so grumpy in the ring. In the video below the judge is talking about Jon having a hard time with Penny.
